The Kita Kaze Budo Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of Japanese weapon arts in Edmonton, Canada.
The association was formed in 2015 by the membership of the Edmonton Kendo and Naginata Club, which has now reformed into separate clubs under the Kita Kaze Budo banner. The association currently provides administrative and financial support to these clubs and engages with the local community to bring better awareness of Japanese weapon arts.
Kita Kaze Budo supports the following martial art clubs:
Kendo, meaning "way of the sword" in Japanese, is a full-contact sport where practitioners put on armour and strike each other with bamboo swords.
The Naginata is the Japanese polearm, a weapon originally used to defend villages from samurai on horseback.
Iaido, the art of drawing and sheathing the katana, utilizes a dull blade while performing special choreographed seqeuences called kata.
